Our client, an independent leader power producer operating and developing power projects in Africa, is looking to appoint a successful Commercial Director to based in Maputo.
Responsibilities:
Commercial and Asset Management
• Overall responsibility for commercial contract management for all operational assets, as well as assets under construction.
• Manages key reporting requirements and contractual notices for all major stakeholders, such as the client, asset lenders as well as regulatory authorities.
• Leads commercial negotiations with clients / off-takers on behalf of the operational asset as well as the assets under construction.
Strategic Support
• In conjunction with the Country Director and relevant Board, it provides input into the strategic management of the relevant assets.
• Accountable for commercial input into the asset Annual Operating Plans (AOPs) and aligns these with the broader organization’s strategies and plans.
• Supports broader corporate processes and business development initiatives, where appropriate.
Reporting
• Accountable to the Country Director as the primary responsible for operations and maintenance oversight for all renewable and battery storage facilities.
• Accountable to deliver board packs, with the support of Site Managers and Functional Managers (where applicable).
• Is responsible delivering and communicating complex reports for a range of audiences.
Financial
• Seeks to maximize shareholder value of the assets by having full profit and loss responsibility for assets under management
• Manage relationships with asset lenders to continuously assess best and speediest options to retrieve value and cash from assets in operation, including but not limited to, dividends, DSRA reductions, etc
• Ensures all project companies adhere to budget constraints.
Stakeholder Relations/Compliance
• Ensures project company compliance with all regulatory obligations, in conjunction with Legal and Compliance Team
• Ensures compliance with corporate governance standards
• Develops, manages and maintains stakeholder relations with key stakeholders at strategic and commercial level
Business Development
• Provides commercial support to business development teams on operational and business management-related issues and contracts during the development phase of projects.

Qualifications:
• Legal, Commercial or Engineering qualification (i.e. Honors) or higher is preferred.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in a senior management role, including previous experience leading teams.
• Minimum five years’ general asset management experience, ideally in power generation or broader energy sector.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and leading teams to high levels of performance.
• Contract management and administration experience.
• Good knowledge of Southern Africa power sector; knowledge of the IPP/renewable energy sector will be an advantage.
• General knowledge of and experience with operation and maintenance of medium voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, protective relay systems, inverters, wind turbines and high voltage transformers and high voltage switching.
