In response to the negative impacts of El Nino in the livelihoods of small holder farmer SHF in the targeted areas of 3R and beyond, IFDC is currently seeking passionate individual consultant for a period of six months to facilitate the implementation of El Nino mitigation interventions in Cheringoma, Chemba, Caia and Tambara Districts.

Responsibilities

 

  • Coordinate the implementation of interventions in the districts of Cheringoma, Chemba, Caia, and Tambara;
  • Prepare the work plan for the implementation of intervention/activities and submit them to the line manager for approval before executing the planned activities and for budget verification;
  • Collaborate with Servico Distrital de Actividades Economicas (SDAE) on resource allocation and utilization; this includes requests of resources such as fuel, providing justifications and reconciliations, etc. All distributions and other activities related to the intervention will be led by the consultant;
  • Work closely with Market System Development and Post Harvest Manager to strategize the intervention and enable impact;
  • Provide technical support to ensure smooth implementation of the activities by connecting with all key stakeholders in the process;
  • Provide feedback on the service providers performance by assessing the quality of their service delivery and making recommendations on possible areas of improvements;
  • Lead in data collection and creation of evidence for the intervention implementation in collaboration with the Monitoring Evaluation Learning and Sharing (MELS) Manager;
  • Guarantee that the most vulnerable i.e., women, youth and people living with disabilities are included and benefit from the interventions;
  • Ensure all guidelines for the intervention and IFDC procedures are followed;
  • Prepare the intermediate and final reports of the intervention in accordance with the provided guidelines and agreed timelines of execution and reporting.

 

Reporting and Work Relationships

 

The incumbent will report to the Natural Acting Country Director IFDC Mozambique.

 

Location

 

The position activities are based in any of the districts mentioned above as per their preference.

 

Consultancy duration and fees

 

The consultant will be paid USD 150 per day for 24 professional working days per month. The consultancy will run for a maximum of 6 months and will be payable in local currency subject to statutory deductions.The determination of consultant salary is determined by the available budget and the level of effort (LOE) required.

About Program/Project

 

The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) will be implementing the Triple Resilience Project, funded by the Embassy of Sweden from October 2023 to December 2027. IFDC, in partnership with the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), Associação Kwaedza Simukai Manica (AKSM), LavasFlor Foundation, União Provincial Dos Camponeses De Manica (UCAMA), and União Provincial de Camponeses (UPC). The overall goal of the project is to achieve social integration, sustainable and resilient livelihoods, and improved management of natural resources for communities throughout the Beira Corridor, ensuring the full economic and social participation of DDRs, IDPs, youth, and women, while reducing vulnerability and risk of future conflict. Apart from co-management role, IFDC will be facilitate the widespread availability and adoption at household and individual levels of environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient on-farm, off-farm and non-farm activities that are income generating for increased food security, nutrition as well as ability to mitigate and/or adapt against climatic shocks and disasters. The project expects to improve livelihoods and food security in the Beira Corridor, through methods and practices that build the capacity and leadership of systemically excluded people and that protect the environment, ultimately leading to enhanced resilience and stability for an estimated 42,000 people.

The program aims to build and strengthen social, climate, and economic resilience, accelerating the shift from humanitarian aid to long-term sustainable development, increasing the ability of communities to absorb, adapt, and transform in the face of recurrent shocks and stresses. By implementing this dynamic approach, exit strategies across each main program intervention will be built. Program will mainstream gender through all program activities, with special emphasis on promoting rights and creating sustainable income generation activities, and gainful employment and leadership opportunities for women and youth through gender-responsive and youth-centered development.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in an area related to Natural Resources Management or Agriculture with emphasis on crop production and village poverty management, Community Development or a closely related field;
  • Professional and technical experience compatible with the duties and responsibilities mentioned above;
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an NGO;
  • Experience in community mobilization, liaison, advocacy, gender equality facilitation;
  • Good communication and coordination skills, and a team player with experience working in normal and emergency situations;
  • Good experience working with the government of Mozambique  both at District and local level is mandatory;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
