Who we are?

IMS (International Media Support) supports local independent media and media advocacy groups in countries affected by conflict, political transition and authoritarian rule. Established in 2001, the organisation has since worked with hundreds of local and international partners to support independent journalism, freedom of expression and the safety of journalists.

The Mozambique Programme
The Mozambique programme is implemented in close collaboration with local partners across Mozambique and has a strong focus on building the capacity of partners to strenghten their ability to ensure an enabling environment for journalists and media in Mozambique.

Job Summary

IMS is seeking an experienced Finance Officer for our programme in Mozambique. The Finance Officer will be based in Maputo with occasional travel within the country.

Within this role, you will be responsible for ensuring local partners’ financial management systems follow statutory and donor financial procedures. Along with the responsibility for accounting and bookkeeping tasks related to the IMS programming in Mozambique, this role will support partner organizations particularly with regards to financial management and reporting.

Key functions and key responsibilities

  • Responsible for archiving of bookkeeping documentation and partner contracts.
  • Assist in the compliance checking of partner financial reporting and control of supporting documentation.
  • Provide training, coaching and other support to local partners on admin/finance issues, reporting guidelines, procedures, and conduct/participate in partner supervision/control/compliance visits.
  • Liaise with local auditors regarding audit of partner financial statements as well as of IMS office accounts (if required)
  • Assist the IMS HQ Finance Team with bookkeeping and internal control of Grants.
  • Ensure compliance with IMS procurement policy, including documentation requirements

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or equivalent qualification
  • Accounting diploma CPA(T) or ACCA will be an added advantage
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics/ Business Central or QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel and Share Point is required, knowledge of Pastel considered an asset
  • Demonstratable experience working in a similar capacity
  • Traceable experience working in an international and non-profit organization
  • Strong English language and Portuguese Language skills – oral and written is a prerequisite
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • Capacity to assess financial risk and context relevant to Programme activities.

Duration & Location

  • Expected length of employment: This is a time-limited position for 12 months, with possibility of extension.
  • Place of employment: Maputo, Mozambique.
  • Employment type: Full-time
  • Starting date: 1st of June 2025, or as soon as possible.
  • Salary will be commensurate with experience and IMS policies

Organisation

You will report to the Programme Manager for Zimbabwe and Mozambique, work closely with colleagues in the Africa Department, and liaise frequently with IMS’ Finance and Administration Department, the Communications Unit, and other cross-cutting units where needed.
